Affordable
At just $30 for a Single membership and $45 for a Family membership (with two members) dues are very affordable, especially considering all the benefits described below.
Scheduled Weekly Rdes
At least two rides are scheduled each week. These rides have choices of distances and speeds to accommodate riders of all abilities.
Special Events
The club hosts a New Years Day party called the Spanning the Years ride. Members optionally cycle the spans of the Sanibel Causeway then return to Sanibel to join other members to celebrate the New Year. The Club also organizes several Off-Island rides each season. Some are day trips and some are overnight. Recent examples include taking bicycles by boat to Boca Grande, biking in the Venice area, Shark Valley and Everglades City, Cape Coral to Pine Island, and riding the Withlacoochee Trail,
Social Meetings
During season the Sanibel Bicycle Club has social meetings each month. In November we start with a Welcome Back picnic at Bowman’s Beach with food and drinks provided by the club. Subsequently there is a monthly Pot Luck dinner at the Sanibel Community House. Each meeting features presentations of interest to cyclists. These might be cycling experiences, technical information, or local activities. Each January a Sanibel City Council Member, the Sanibel City Manager, Police Chief, and Public Works Manager attend a meeting to present information about cycling on Sanibel and answer questions from members.
Business Meetings
Each month in season members are invited to attend a Business meeting where officers, directors, and members discuss club business. Club actions relative to cycling on Sanibel are considered and plans for implementation are voted on.
Advocacy
The Sanibel Bicycle Club supports cycling on Sanibel. The club interacts with Sanibel City Government on issues involving the Sanibel shared use paths. Club members volunteer to maintain the Bicycle Welcome Center. The club accepts donations and uses them for projects to improve cycling on Sanibel.
Insurance
During scheduled SBC rides Sanibel Bicycle Club members have liability insurance and excess medical insurance coverage.
Discounts
Sanibel Bike Club members receive 10% discounts on non-sale items at Billy’s Bike Shop.
