ABOUT SANIBEL AND SANIBEL BIKE CLUB
Sanibel is a beautiful, sub-tropical barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico, blessed with sunshine, beaches, lush vegetation, abundant wildlife, quiet streets and 23 miles of paved shared use paths. In short, Sanibel is a paradise for cycling. In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, our abundant shared use paths have taken on extra meaning as a useful way to get around the island.
The Sanibel Bicycle Club was formed in 1994 and over the years has grown to include several hundred members. The club has three distinct missions:
- To provide an opportunity for cycling enthusiasts to ride and socialize together.
- To promote cycling for recreation, transportation and health.
- To advocate for improvements in the safety and infrastructure of Sanibel’s shared-use path system.
The Club has organized rides every Saturday morning . We meet at the Sanibel Community house at 8am. All levels of rider welcome. We will usually have a number of different routes. The standard is from the community park through Ding Darling and back to the Sanibel Deli to socialize. Other routes may include a trip to Captiva or other variations.
Please feel free to join us and try out the Club on a Saturday morning.
